Musicians On Call Brings Nashville To Bonnaroo
From June 13 – 16 music fans descended on Manchester, Tennessee for the annual Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. Fans got an added dose of music this year as Musicians On Call partnered with the Bonnaroo Works Fund to bring the healing power of music to the festival.
Each day at the Roo Works Cafe fans had the opportunity to enjoy coffee and the talents of six of Nashville’s Volunteer Musicians. April Kry, Drew Dixon, Dylan Rokoff, Daniel Ethridge, Liz Bohannon and Lindsay Ellyn each performed solo sets as well as writers’ rounds together at the end of the day. Their songs and stories helped raise awareness for Musicians On Call’s programs in Middle Tennessee and across the country.
“It was such an honor to perform at Bonnaroo with my fellow MOC volunteers. We had the best time sharing our music and the MOC mission with so many different people over the course of the festival,” said volunteer Lindsay Ellyn, “Although MOC has a respected reputation in many cities across the country, I met a lot of folks at Bonnaroo who hadn’t heard of MOC and were so moved by the stories we shared. For me that was the “win” at the end of the day – it felt amazing to see people engaging with our booth, wanting to learn more, or visiting the MOC website on the spot to see how they could get involved.”
Fans who attended the live performances could also fill out signs saying why they believe music heals. MOC’s Senior Manager of Grants and Research PJ Cowan also discussed the power of music in healthcare facilities as part of a special panel during the festival.
“Many studies show how music impacts a patient’s well-being, and through our Bedside Performance Program we have the privilege of seeing its benefits firsthand. Music helps patients manage stress levels, alleviate pain and improve blood pressure and their overall mood while in the hospital,” said Musicians On Call President & CEO Pete Griffin. “We can’t thank our volunteers enough for giving their time and talents towards our mission.”
With this event Musicians On Call received a $1,500 donation from the Bonnaroo Works Fund to support our programs in Middle Tennessee.
