Meet Betsy Buck, Our Featured Volunteer from Los Angeles!

Get to know our volunteers!

Do you volunteer at a specific hospital? I volunteer at Mattel Children’s Hospital.

How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? I have been volunteering for about 8 months.

Are you a volunteer guide or musician? Guide

What is your occupation outside of MOC? I’m the host of Radio Disney Country!

Do you have any hidden talents? I wish! I grew up singing and dancing, and in addition to my love of country music, I am a big musical theatre nerd! I also really love to practice yoga and eat cupcakes.

What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? Music has always been a huge part of my life! It has made me feel comforted, hopeful, encouraged, joyful, and connected, and I have always wanted to share those feelings with others! I first learned about MOC from Pete and the amazing country artists that we play on Radio Disney Country! I was so fortunate to attend MOC’s 5th-anniversary party for their LA Chapter, and it was there that I just knew that I had to get involved! I volunteer to spread joy and bring healing to the hearts’ of others!

What makes MOC different from your other volunteer experiences? Everyone sincerely wants to make a difference in the lives of others! It is so beautiful to see the way that every single person who works with MOC lights up when they are asked about it! Everyone inspires me!!

Has your life changed because of your experience with Musicians On Call? Absolutely! I have tears in my eyes as I write this! MOC is such a gift, and the way that music transcends time and circumstance feels spiritual! I wish I could volunteer every single day!

What is your favorite #MOCmoment? It’s so hard to choose just one because I feel like every program includes multiple #MOCmoments! I love watching pain lift from the room, leaving joy in its place! One special moment that sticks out was when a patient was so excited about the MOC performance that they motioned from their bed to their parent for something tucked into a bag. Their parent pulled out a ukulele and the patient was so excited to start playing and singing with our amazing musicians! The entire room was smiling and singing along! It was a beautiful moment!
