Get to know our volunteers!
Do you volunteer at a specific hospital? I volunteer at Children’s Hospital Colorado
How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? 4 months
Are you a Volunteer Guide or Volunteer Musician? Guide
What is your occupation outside of MOC? VP of Events for Fairway Independent Mortgage Corp
What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? I donated bone marrow a few years ago and spent a day in the hospital. I could empathize with how frightening hospitals can be! I feel like music soothes the soul and for that brief moment when the musician is performing for the patients and family, I can see how welcome the distraction with how it brings a little peace.
What makes MOC different from your other volunteer experiences? Being in the room with the patients and family members while watching them smile and embracing the miracle of music is the most humbling and heartwarming experience. This is totally different from any other volunteer opportunity I’ve ever had!
Has your life changed because of your experience with MOC? Absolutely! First of all, I learned that Children’s Hospital Colorado is an amazing establishment that strives for excellence. I also now have a deeper understanding and greater appreciation for the power of music and the effect it has on people of all ages. I’m beyond blessed to be a small part of MOC.
What is your favorite #MOCmoment? My favorite #MOCmoment was from one week ago. The entire family, as well as the patient, were all singing along with the musician. So many emotions were swirling around in that room. There were smiles, laughter and tears. I well up just thinking about it!
