Meet Mackinna Hart, our featured volunteer from Nashville!

Get to know our volunteers!

Do you volunteer at a specific hospital? I volunteer at Vanderbilt in the Cardiac unit

How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? Two years

Are you a Volunteer Guide or Volunteer Musician? Guide

What is your occupation outside of MOC? Social Media Consultant at Jumpcrew

Do you have any hidden talents? Stand-up comedy! I’m also really good at making crépes.

What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? I found MOC my sophomore year of college when I was looking to intern with a company that was making a positive impact on the community, but that would also align with my degree in Music Business. When I discovered the work that MOC was doing with music and hospital patients, I knew I had to get involved, and I’ve been volunteering ever since. The incredible power that music has to heal people is so apparent each time I volunteer. I love seeing a patient start to dance or sing along with our volunteer musicians.

What makes MOC different from your other volunteer experiences? Music is such a universal language. None of my other volunteer experiences have been able bring people together the way the music does during a program.

Has your life changed because of your experience with MOC? I’ve been able to witness the incredible change that music can bring to someone. I have so many amazing memories of patients and caregivers that have had their spirits lifted that I will carry with me for years to come. I am so thankful to be part of a community that truly cares for people.

What is your favorite #MOCmoment? There are too many to count! But I think one of the best moments was when two nurses began singing and dancing along with the patient as the musician played. You could just feel the joy that the music had brought to everyone in that moment.
